It's been a long time since the middle of yesterday
'It's been a long time since the middle of yesterday' continues the pandemic series 'A view from here'.
The work is rooted in my daily walks through my old neighborhood in Brooklyn. The colors and compositions are reflections of the messy residential and industrial parts of the Sunset Park area. The collages themselves are intuitive searches for echoes of those impressions, bent into their own worlds and ideas of spaces.
Many of these pieces are signed on the back, but could be viewed from either side and their orientation is also negotiable. When working on them, I hold these pieces in my hands and turn them around many times. This interaction, which leaves traces on the paper, becomes part of the collages, a record of these actions, integrating imperfections, flaws and other occurrences into their language.
The title for these series is taken from an AI translation of a IG post. The slightly weird English perfectly described the pandemic lockdown period, this feeling of no clear boundaries of time, where one day just flowed into another.
