Schief und Vergänglich
Schief und Vergänglich (Crooked and Transient) was the title of my solo show at SomoS Arts Gallery, (Berlin, Germany) in January 2023. The exhibit showcased time specific, site responsive work that came into being during my artist residency at SomoS in 2022-23. Made with cardboard found in local supermarkets and/or brought in by neighbors, interns and other artists, the sculptures echoed impressions of my daily walks through Berlin, merging colors, street furniture, city blocks, people and fashion into these pieces.
Through these sculptures I continued my investigation of temporary and perishable work, its value and place in the world.
I invited dancer Anna Deborah Disse to create an improvised performance around Schief und Vergänglich. During the opening of Schief und Vergänglich they engaged in a conversation with the work through movement.
At the end of the exhibit fellow residents curator Yeni Ma, painter Radomir Milovic and myself deconstructed, cut up and retired the pieces into recycling bins. Painter Emilia Jechna and residency director Paulus Fugers filmed the process.
